In 1997 the AA Small Animal Emergency Service established a blood bank to help provide much needed blood products to veterinarians throughout central Kentucky. With the support of many generous, caring owners who volunteer their pets to be blood donors, our blood bank has been able to help save the lives of hundreds of critically ill or injured cats and dogs.
Due to the large demand for blood products, we are always in search of calm, even tempered dogs and cats to add to our donor program. Our donors are blood typed and receive annual blood screenings free of charge. A veterinarian is present during blood collection and physical exam is performed prior to every donation. Your pet will only donate 3-4 times per year.
